trip ITINERARY
DAY 1 - 16th March
Arrive Kathmandu: Meet First Steps Himalaya director, Durga Aran and the rest of the group. There will be a group briefing in the early evening.
Altitude: 1,400 m.
DAY 2 - 17th march
Kathmandu: Depending on the season, you’ll either have a free day to explore Kathmandu’s vibrant streets and iconic landmarks or embark on a scenic drive to Ramechhap. Located approximately 5 hours from Kathmandu, this small town serves as the departure point for flights to Lukla, the gateway to trekking in the Everest region. *Please note: Flying from Kathmandu will incur an additional night of accommodation cost.
Altitude: 1,400 m.
DAY 3 - 18th march
Kathmandu to Phakding: The short flight to Lukla offers stunning views of the Himalayas. The landing is an exciting start to the trek, with one end of the runway 60 meters (197 feet) higher than the other. From Lukla, the trail begins by descending before following the scenic Dudh Koshi River, passing through forests and spectacular waterfalls. After passing through the village of Ghat, the trail continues to climb to Phakding.

Altitude: 2,610 m.
DAY 4 - 19th march
Climb from Phakding to Namche Bazaar: For the first couple of hours the trail climbs uphill, crossing suspension bridges and gradually ascending to the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, the official entrance to the Everest Region. The final climb to Namche takes around 3 hours, and it is important to rest and drink plenty of water as you are now gaining altitude.

DAY 5 - 20th march
Rest day in Namche Bazaar: Although this is a rest day, it is recommended to go on a day hike to higher altitude and return to Namche. Namche has lots of little shops and cafes, which are fun to explore.

DAY 6 - 21st march
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche: Follow the path above Namche to a viewpoint offering spectacular views of Thamserku and Amadablam. Descend to the river valley for lunch before climbing through thick forest to Tengboche, which has the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region.
Walking time: 5 hrs
Altitude: 3,860 m.
DAY 7 - 22nd march
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche: The sunrise over Everest and Amadablam from Tengboche is worth getting up early for! Today’s trek begins with a short descent through birch and rhododendron forest, passing numerous mani walls as the scenery changes to more dry and rocky. Walk through the typical Sherpa village of Pangboche before reaching Dingboche.
Walking time: 6 hrs
Altitude: 4,410 m.
DAY 8 - 23rd march
Rest day in Dingboche: Take an acclimatisation hike to Chhukhung, to help your body adjust to the increasing altitudes ahead.
Walking time: 3-5 hrs
Altitude: 4,600 m.
DAY 9 - 24th march
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche: The trail starts by climbing out of Dingboche, and you’ll notice how much the landscape has changed and almost all vegetation has disappeared. Follow the valley past streams and lakes, and ascend to Lobuche, one of the last settlements on the way to Everest with overnight lodging.
Walking time: 6 hrs
Altitude: 4,940 m.
DAY 10 - 25th march
Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp, return to Gorak Shep: The trail from Lobuche to Gorak Shep runs parallel to the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest glacier. Continue on to Everest Base Camp, the foot of the highest mountain in the world! The views from here are unbelievable. Return to sleep at Gorak Shep, which is at a lower altitude than Base Camp.
Walking time: 7-8 hrs
Altitude: 5,160 m.
DAY 11 - 26th march
Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar, and descend to Pheriche: Gorak Shep is at the foot of Kala Patthar, a 5,643 m. mountain with probably the best views of Everest in the entire Khumbu region. Climb it in time for sunrise for unforgettable views. The descent down to Pheriche afterwards is long but steadily downhill.
Kala Patthar climb: 2-3 hrs; Gorak Shep to Pheriche walking time: 5 hrs
Altitude: 4,940 m.
DAY 12 - 27th march
Pheriche to Pangboche: Today, continue your steady descent to lower altitudes. The temperatures will be warmer, and any effects of the high altitude that you might have been feeling is likely to fade as you descend.
Walking time: 3 hrs
Altitude: 3,860 m.
DAY 13 - 28th march
Trek from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar: Today you can look forward to being back in Namche Bazaar, with its variety of restaurants and shops. It might feel funny to be back in a town, but you can enjoy some home comforts again.
Walking time: 5 hrs
Altitude: 3,440 m.
DAY 14 - 29th march
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla: This journey that took a couple of days on the way up can be descended in a single day.
Walking time: 6 hrs
Altitude: 2,860 m.
DAY 15 - 30th march
Lukla to Kathmandu: Fly from Lukla to Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) before returning to Kathmandu.
Overnight: Kathmandu
Altitude: 1,400 m.
DAY 16 - 31st march
Kathmandu: Free time for sightseeing, shopping, relaxing.
Altitude: 1,400 m.
DAY 17 - 1st april
Depart Kathmandu.
